JANM Brings Tokyo’s Summer Festival to Life
Little Tokyo came alive with Japanese culture, community, and summer fun at the Japanese American National Museum’s (JANM) annual Natsumatsuri Family Festival!
Held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Terasaki Budokan in Little Tokyo, Los Angeles, the free celebration welcomed families and visitors of all backgrounds for traditional Obon dancing, live music, civic pop-ups, and hands-on cultural activities.
Although JANM’s main building is temporarily closed for renovations, the museum kept this cherished tradition going by bringing the festival to the nearby Terasaki Budokan. The event introduced new generations to Japanese American history and heritage while creating opportunities for civic engagement and community connection.
Natsumatsuri proved that community spirit is not tied to a single building—it thrives wherever people gather to celebrate culture, history and one another.
