In My Neighborhood I See: Voices of Canoga Park
In Canoga Park, some of the most powerful stories aren’t found in headlines—they’re spoken through poetry, painted on canvas, and shared by the people who live them. In My Neighborhood I See is a series of community-curated events designed to showcase the diverse perspectives of local residents through art, spoken word, and personal storytelling. Through poetry, visual art, and live performances, community members shared their experiences, offering an honest look at the realities of growing up in the neighborhood.
One young poet described how poetry became a safe space—an outlet to be vulnerable, process emotions, and express feelings without judgment or pressure. The event also spotlighted local youth talent, demonstrating how the arts can provide purpose, connection, and an alternative to life on the streets.
Held at Taxco Theatre and the neighborhood performing arts center, the series revealed sides of the Canoga Park community that outsiders may not often see. More than a venue, the arts center serves as a platform where every voice, experience, and creative expression has a place to be heard.
