Tradespeople Needed: Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion Hiring Fair
The Los Angeles Convention Center recently hosted a hiring event to recruit tradespeople for its expansion project and other opportunities. The expansion will help revitalize downtown Los Angeles and prepare the city to host the 2028 Olympic Games.
The event focused on helping local Angelenos, including those with no prior construction experience, find pathways to full-time employment. Representatives from multiple unions were on-site to share information and connect attendees with opportunities across a range of trades, while community-based organizations helped participants identify and pursue career paths in the industry. Beyond job opportunities, the event also created space for networking and building relationships, drawing more than 1,300 applicants to attend, a record for the City.
The Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion project includes adding a new hall over Pico Boulevard, connecting the existing facilities on both sides of the street and expanding the center by hundreds of thousands of square feet. The effort comes at a time when the trades face a major workforce shortage, with four people retiring for every one new worker entering the field. Increasing participation in the trades is critical to maintaining a strong workforce and ensuring people have access to stable jobs, livable wages, and opportunities to support their families and communities.
