45 Years of Beauty: The Annual Black Doll Show at William Grant Still Art Center
The William Grant Still Art Center is celebrating 45 years of the Annual Black Doll Show, a unique exhibition that showcases dolls representing people of color. Each year, the show features a different theme, highlighting the beauty, diversity, and artistry of dolls while honoring the creators behind them.

The show challenges long-standing stigmas and demonstrates how dolls of all colors are gorgeous and meaningful. Visitors can see dolls made from clay, cloth, and other materials, and the center even offers classes after the exhibit to teach attendees how these dolls are created.

Staff and participants say the show is a powerful way to highlight community, particularly the community of color. Many artists, including first-time contributors, describe being part of the exhibit as an honor and a chance to share positive, creative energy.

While the doll show is a centerpiece of the center’s programming, free art exhibits are offered throughout the year, inviting the public to explore and celebrate culture, creativity, and community.

The 45th Annual Black Doll Show runs through February 14th.
