All Creatures Great and Small Welcome to the Blessing of the Animals
What do a goat, a bunny, and a parrot have in common? They all showed up for a blessing in the heart of Los Angeles.

The Blessing of the Animals at El Pueblo is a long-standing Los Angeles tradition that began in 1930 alongside the opening of Olvera Street and has been maintained by local merchants for nearly a century. The ceremony celebrates the bond between humans and animals and remains a welcoming, community-centered event.

Open to all, the blessing includes not only dogs but also cats, birds, reptiles, and even chickens—this year featuring a bunny and a goat. Many attendees return year after year, continuing family traditions and honoring their pets as beloved members of their families. In addition to the blessing by the archbishop, the event also includes live shows and performances.
