Art in the Park – Bringing Arts & Culture to Los Angeles Since 1996
Art in the Park, a community-based, artist-led organization located in Hermon Park in the Arroyo Seco, continues its long-running commitment to arts education and neighborhood programming. Founded in 1997, the organization offers free classes and workshops in visual art, music, dance, readings, and film screenings, aiming to provide a welcoming creative space outside the home.

Since its inception, Art in the Park has operated in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. This collaboration supports the organization’s outreach efforts and helps integrate its work into the city’s broader cultural landscape.

The program is housed in a building constructed in 1939 as a lawn bowling clubhouse. Art in the Park was originally pioneered by Berta Sosa, whose focus was on supporting local youth. At the time, the neighborhood had low high school graduation rates, and Sosa sought to create a space where young people could imagine themselves pursuing higher education.

Today, Art in the Park maintains a wide range of weekly and weekend programming. Its multi-generational Latin jazz ensemble and community band are open to participants of all ages and skill levels. Additional offerings include Creativity Club and an elder guitar class for older residents. All programs are free.

Art in the Park encourages all residents to visit, take part in a class, or attend a screening or workshop. More information is available at ArtInTheParkLA.org.
