California Youth Leaders Come Together to Improve Youth Development
Youth leaders from cities across California met with nonprofits and professionals to talk about how to improve youth development. They shared ideas, programs, and challenges, and found that many cities face similar issues. Everyone agreed that young people should have a voice in decisions that affect them.
Youth leader Jerry Yang said he attended to share a youth perspective and learn what ideas could work in Los Angeles. Participants praised the City of Los Angeles for having a Youth Development office within city government, which helps keep youth needs in focus and supports creative programs.
Although this was the first meeting of its kind, many attendees said they want to stay involved and encourage others to support youth development.
In Los Angeles, youth development is part of the Community Investment for Families Department.
