Igniting confidence and strength in the firefighters of tomorrow, Camp Spark gives teens a look into the fire service.

Camp Spark is open to anyone ages fourteen to eighteen, and firefighters from across Los Angeles volunteer to run drills, explain equipment, and mentor participants. The goal reaches beyond mechanical skills. Campers climb ladders, handle power tools, learn basic tactics, and get a feel for emergency response, but the deeper mission is leadership, confidence, and the belief that they belong in this profession.

Instructors set clear expectations. Come ready to work. Bring a strong attitude. They keep the environment supportive and positive, but stay honest about the physical effort the job requires. The payoff shows in the way campers leave the drill tower: tired, proud, and energized.

Some former campers have already gone on to join the Los Angeles Fire Department and other agencies, and the program has inspired similar camps across the region. Camp Spark proves that when young people are challenged and encouraged, they can see themselves as future firefighters.
