On this episode of CityBeat: LA Announces Major Initiatives Supporting Local Businesses, Veteran Housing, and Paralympic Readiness.

Mayor Karen Bass joined state and regional leaders to launch LA is Open, a new recovery campaign designed to boost the local economy after the January wildfires. The initiative encourages residents and visitors to support businesses through Shop LA, Dine LA, and Discover LA. Bass also announced the city’s contract financing program and introduced Business Navigator, a centralized website to help businesses prepare for major upcoming events.

Mayor Karen Bass also joined the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) and veterans’ groups to celebrate progress under the "House Our Vets" strategy. Since January 2025, nearly four hundred veterans have moved into stable housing through expanded partnerships with the Veterans Administration. The effort focuses on improving referrals, reducing move-in delays, and increasing opportunities for landlords to rent to veterans.

Mayor Karen Bass marked the 1,000-day countdown to the 2028 Paralympic Games, highlighting the city’s work to deliver the most inclusive Games in history. Los Angeles will host its first Paralympics starting August 15, 2028, featuring competitions in twenty-three sports, including the debut of paraclimbing. A citywide mobility working group and a new task force focused on hiring and retaining individuals with disabilities will guide accessibility efforts.
