The Dangerous and Unpredictable Job of an LA Park Ranger
Behind the badge of an LA City Park Ranger, there is no such thing as a typical day.

From confronting armed suspects and tracking repeat fire offenders to rescuing lost hikers, responding to medical emergencies, and protecting communities from fast-moving brush fires, LA City Park Rangers never know what their next call will bring. With approximately 30 active rangers responsible for more than 450 parks across Los Angeles, their work requires courage, compassion, and a deep commitment to public service.

Go on patrol with the men and women who protect some of L.A.’s most treasured natural spaces. Hear about the split-second decisions they make, the dangers they face, and the calling that keeps them coming back—even after routine encounters turn into life-threatening situations.

Whether they are helping someone through the worst day of their life, teaching children about the parks or preserving L.A.’s remaining wildlands for future generations, these rangers wear many hats. Their mission is simple but powerful: protect the parks, preserve the environment and make sure everyone can enjoy these remarkable spaces safely.

For these dedicated public servants, Los Angeles is more than the city they patrol—it is their home, their community and the place they are proud to protect.
