Encampment Resolution Effort to House Residents Along the 110 and L.A. River
City officials gathered at Lacy Street Park in Council District 1 to announce the launch of an encampment resolution initiative aimed at housing approximately 70 people living along the 110 Freeway and the Los Angeles River, from Dodger Stadium to Avenue 52. The effort is intended to transition residents from long-standing encampments into stable housing while restoring public access to the surrounding area.
According to officials, the corridor has been challenging for outreach teams to access, making it difficult to connect unhoused residents with services. The new initiative focuses on housing as the primary step toward clearing encampments, rather than relying on repeated cleanups that do not address long-term needs.
Service providers reported that 15 individuals were moved into housing on the first day of the operation. Those placed now have private rooms and bathrooms and receive daily meals. Staff described the transition as significant for participants who have lived outdoors for extended periods.
Officials emphasized that many people experiencing homelessness have faced years of delays in accessing housing. The initiative aims to provide a more reliable process, framed around consistent engagement and long-term stability.
The city plans to continue working with participants as they transition into housing and restore public access to areas affected by encampments.
