Free 24/7 Community Wi-Fi Launches Along Crenshaw Corridor
A new community Wi-Fi network is now live along Crenshaw Boulevard, providing free, 24/7 internet access to residents and visitors in the Hyde Park and Leimert Park areas. The service spans much of the Crenshaw corridor, offering connectivity in coffee shops, parks, outdoor spaces, and even on Metro trains.

Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson and Councilmember Heather Hutt said the project addresses long-standing gaps in digital access. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many residents had to rely on Wi-Fi outside libraries, fast-food restaurants, and parks due to limited home internet service. The new network is meant to close that gap and ensure people can stay connected throughout the community.

The California Community Foundation, a partner on the project, identified digital equity as a key priority, noting that reliable internet is now essential for job searches, education, and healthcare.

Destination Crenshaw helped bring the pilot program to local partners, including the Crenshaw Farmers’ Market. Organizers said free Wi-Fi will make it easier to operate in an outdoor setting with limited infrastructure and will give both vendors and visitors more flexibility.

Officials said expanding connectivity is an important step toward giving all residents equal access to information and opportunity in an increasingly digital world.
