Groundbreaking Held for Grace Villas Affordable Housing Development in Lincoln Heights
City officials, community partners, and residents gathered in Lincoln Heights to celebrate the groundbreaking of Grace Villas, a long-planned affordable housing development that will transform a publicly owned parking lot in Council District 1 into 48 new residential units.

The project will include a mix of three-bedroom and two-bedroom homes for families, as well as units designated for transitional-age youth and for households that include members with developmental disabilities. Residents will have access to on-site supportive services tailored to their needs.

Grace Villas is being developed in partnership with WORKS, a nonprofit housing organization with a long history in the area. A resident from Highland Village noted that WORKS previously rehabilitated her apartment complex into affordable housing, saying the organization has provided long-term stability for low-income tenants.

Local officials emphasized the city’s commitment to expanding affordable housing options, regardless of income, age, or ability. They highlighted Measure ULA, approved by voters in 2022, which provides revenue for building affordable housing and preventing displacement. The project’s financing was finalized the week prior to the groundbreaking.

Before construction begins, participants took part in a traditional land blessing to honor the communities that have historically cared for the area. The ceremony concluded with the symbolic tossing of dirt to mark the start of construction.

Grace Villas will begin building in the coming week and is intended to offer new housing opportunities for families and young people in Lincoln Heights.
