Helping Formerly Incarcerated Angelenos Rebuild Their Lives
For many formerly incarcerated Angelenos, getting a second chance starts with access to the right resources. The Los Angeles Civil Rights Department recently brought those opportunities directly to the community through the Mayor’s Second Chance Resource Fair, connecting residents with critical services designed to support successful reentry and long-term stability.
Attendees had access to on-site job interviews, free DMV identification cards, legal assistance with record expungement, housing and employment resources, and direct connections to community organizations. For many participants, these services help remove the barriers that often stand in the way of rebuilding their lives after incarceration.
But the event offered more than practical support. Free haircuts, professional clothing, and one-on-one mentorship helped participants prepare for new opportunities with confidence and dignity. Through initiatives like this, Los Angeles is investing in second chances, helping formerly incarcerated residents reconnect with their communities, support their families, and build a stronger future.
