How E-Bikes Help L.A. Firefighters Reach Emergencies Faster
The Los Angeles Fire Department is adding new e-bikes to improve emergency response. These all-terrain bikes will help EMTs and paramedics reach patients faster, especially in hard-to-access areas and during disasters. They can also support helicopters by quickly reaching and guiding the way to emergency sites.

The effort began with the motor recon team during Carmageddon in 2010 and 2011, created to improve response times. Now, through a partnership with Google, YouTube, and the LAFD, the program has been upgraded with electric motorcycles.

Chief Jaime Moore said the bikes will help crews move quickly through canyons, hills, and heavy freeway traffic. The program is part of a $15 million plan to better equip first responders.
