Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Brings Joy and Inspiration to UCLA RFK Community School
The UCLA RFK Community School turned into a celebration when the Skyhook Foundation hosted a sneaker and backpack giveaway for Los Angeles Unified School District students. Basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar spent the day with the kids, handing out gear and offering the kind of encouragement that stays with a young person for life.
Students lit up as they opened their new shoes and compared colors with their friends. Staff described the energy as pure Christmas morning. Many said that simply being around Abdul-Jabbar and the community partners gave the day a special spark.
Abdul-Jabbar spoke about the heroes he admired as a kid, including Bill Russell and Jackie Robinson. He credited them with shaping his sense of responsibility on and off the court, and he hopes to pass that message forward. He emphasized that kids are the future.
