Gordon Philanthropies has spent the last several years partnering with local law enforcement to improve how children experience police facilities through its Kids' Comfort Corner initiative.

The work began with creating small libraries in county jails, which revealed a broader need for dedicated child friendly spaces in stations, including the one at the LAPD Southeast Community Police Station. Before this effort, officers often relied on donated toys and old books to make waiting areas more welcoming.

The new children’s corner has noticeably changed the tone of the station for both kids and staff. Having a place to sit with a toy or a book helps reduce stress for children and gives officers a better setting to reassure and support them.
