LA Civil Rights: A Year of Belonging and Action in Review
Hate has no home in Los Angeles, and this year the LA Civil Rights Department aimed to make that message unmistakably clear. From the relaunch of the “Just Say Hello” campaign to the Citywide “We Belong” initiative, Los Angeles Civil Rights reinforced its commitment to building a welcoming city where everyone is seen, valued, and protected.

A major milestone was the release of the Reparations Report, documenting over 100 years of the African-American experience in Los Angeles and affirming the City’s commitment to acknowledging past harms and working toward healing and justice.

Throughout the year, LA Civil Rights stood with communities facing discrimination—from supporting LGBTQ+ and transgender Angelenos with job fairs and housing pathways, to celebrating AAPI Heritage Month, and uniting neighbors through the Tom LaBonge Day of Service.

The department also strengthened protections for faith communities, expanded Know Your Rights resources for immigrants and students, and sent a clear message in multiple languages. I belong. You belong. We belong.

As they reviewed their year, they highlighted a city moving forward together, standing against hate, uplifting every community, and building a Los Angeles for all.
