LAFD Firefighter of the Year Award - Matthew Nolan
He’s not just the best—he’s building the next generation.

Matthew Nolan has been named 2025 Firefighter of the Year for the Los Angeles Fire Department. He began his career in North Hollywood and spent nearly two decades at Fire Station 60, serving as a Firefighter, Apparatus Operator, and Captain II before taking on his current role.

Now a Captain II and Drill Master at Drill Tower 81, Nolan trains future generations of firefighters and is widely respected for his humble leadership and lasting impact on the department’s culture. He earned this honor through his ongoing commitment to strengthening the LAFD and the leadership values he has passed on to every firefighter who has trained under him.
