A Long-Missed Holiday Tradition Returns to the Community

Councilmember Imelda Padilla hosted the first Christmas tree lighting in Council District 6 in more than 15 years, an event that drew residents who said they’ve long missed having local spaces to celebrate the holiday season. Padilla noted that community members often tell her they want opportunities to gather close to home and feel the holiday spirit, which motivated her to revive the tradition.

As the countdown began and the tree lit up, neighbors cheered and welcomed the return of a long-absent community moment. Attendees said the event reflects Padilla’s efforts to bring people together and strengthen district pride. “This is the kind of event that connects families and community members,” one resident said, adding gratitude for the councilmember’s support of the district.

The evening included socializing, carol singing, holiday treats, and even a visit from Santa Claus!
