Community members gathered in the historic heart of Los Angeles to celebrate La Batalla de Puebla, the 1862 victory in which the Mexican army defeated French forces, a moment first honored at El Pueblo’s historic kiosk just one year later.
Today, El Pueblo continues to serve as a cultural and historic gathering place, welcoming residents and visitors for community programs, live performances, and celebrations that reflect the rich diversity of Los Angeles. Partner organizations like COFEM work alongside the City to support Mexican and Mexican-American communities, while music, dance, and generations of families—from local residents to visiting seniors from the Inland Empire—help keep the spirit of Cinco de Mayo alive in the heart of L.A.
