Los Angeles Police Department's 2025 Crime Data Report Released
Chief Jim McDonnell of the Los Angeles Police Department released the 2025 Annual Crime Data Report, a compilation of the end-of-year crime statistics. The crime data report indicated a decrease of 19 percent in homicides in 2025, compared to 2024. The number of homicides for 2025 is the lowest since 1966.
The Chief announced that 68 percent of those 2025 homicide cases were cleared and an additional 76 homicides from previous years were closed because of L.A.P. D. follow-up work. A reduction in the number of guns on the streets was cited as a factor in the reduction of homicides.
Councilmember John Lee, who heads the City Council Committee on Public Safety, noted that "when we invest in our law enforcement, we see safer neighborhoods and real results." He added that focused policing and strong investigative work in the Devonshire and Topanga Divisions had ensured progress that Lee wants to see emulated throughout Los Angeles.
