New Affordable Homes Built Atop Metro Station
The grand opening of the Santa Monica and Vermont Apartments celebrated a new housing development in East Hollywood, which is more than close to public transit as the apartments are built on top of the train station.

The housing units are transit adjacent, close to the train and multiple bus lines, so residents are not car-dependent to get around. The new development provides 187 units of affordable and supportive housing to the Los Angeles housing stock.

The project was a collaboration between a local nonprofit, Little Tokyo Service Center and Metro, and also required partnerships with the City of Los Angeles, the county, the state, and the federal government.

Combining housing and transportation makes both more affordable for working families. This stability allows residents to focus on future goals, such as saving for their children's college education or eventually buying a home.
