New Pacoima Stormwater Capture Project to Reduce Flooding and Replenish Groundwater
What happens to stormwater after it falls on Los Angeles streets? A new stormwater capture project in Pacoima is helping answer that question while reducing flooding, improving water quality, and strengthening the region's local water supply.
The project will capture and clean the stormwater that would otherwise flow into the Tujunga Wash, replenishing local groundwater and reducing reliance on imported water. During construction, the project team is working closely with the David M. Gonzalez Recreation Center to keep recreation programs available for the community whenever possible.
Once completed, the park will be restored with new amenities, including two brand-new baseball fields. This project is the first of nine funded stormwater infrastructure projects to begin construction and reflects years of collaboration between the Department of Water and Power, Recreation and Parks, and other partner agencies.
