New Tech Preserving Personal Histories for Future Generations
New AI-based technology has been introduced at the Japanese American National Museum to help preserve firsthand historical stories. StoryFile allows people to have real-time, interactive conversations with individuals—even after they have passed away.

One of the featured recordings unveiled includes George Takei, who shares his experiences as a child in internment camps during World War II. The project focuses on preserving the voices of museum docents who lived through incarceration, ensuring their stories remain available to the public.

The goal is to educate future generations about important moments in American history and democracy, including past injustices. The project represents eight years of work and spans three generations of effort.

The museum, located in Little Tokyo, is currently under renovation and is expected to reopen in 2026 with StoryFiles and other new exhibits. Learn more at https://www.janm.org
