Origin Award for Directing Legend Charles Burnett
Filmmaker Charles Burnett was honored with this year’s Origin Award for his work in film. The event, hosted by the Our Authors Study Club at the Central Library, highlighted his career and the stories he has brought to the screen.

His films focus on everyday life in Black families, showing both the highs and the struggles with honesty and care. Burnett uses filmmaking to share truth, challenge history, and give space to voices that are often overlooked, and the award also recognized the obstacles he overcame along the way.

He believes that seeing others succeed can help people find direction and believe in their own path. The Los Angeles Public Library continues to support artists by offering a place to read, learn, and share stories. Watch to learn more about his work and impact.
