Promises Kept with New Housing for the Community at Cypress View
The Los Angeles City Housing Authority (HACLA) celebrated the completion of Cypress View, a new phase in the revitalization of public housing at Jordan Downs in Watts. The 119-unit development is part of a broader effort to reimagine the 700-unit community, originally built in the 1950s and long affected by limited federal investment. HACLA President and CEO Lourdes Castro Ramirez emphasized that redevelopment would not displace residents—a promise that has been kept.

Cypress View was developed in partnership with Bridge Housing, a longtime provider of affordable housing, and El Nido Family Centers, which offers supportive services to help residents remain stably housed. The revitalization also includes new community amenities such as Pearl Park, reflecting HACLA’s vision to provide the same quality of spaces and opportunities found in other neighborhoods across Los Angeles.

For longtime resident Mary Goodlow, who has lived at Jordan Downs for 46 years, the transition was emotional. While saying goodbye to the original buildings was difficult, she now enjoys the comfort of her new home, walking through the park, relaxing on her porch, and finding peace in her new surroundings. She credits counseling and coaching services for helping her through the change and encourages others to seek support as well.
