Rail Connections from the East San Fernando Valley to the Westside of Los Angeles
At a recent Metro Board meeting, the board members approved a plan that will connect the Westside of Los Angeles to the San Fernando Valley. The approval for what is now known as "Modified Alternative 5" is an exciting development for many in the community who have been anticipating it for years.

A student, who attends UCLA, explained that the current primary route to school is the 405 freeway, which is not accessible, not easy, and not affordable.

Another commuter student gave public comment at the board meeting to share her story and emphasize how a fast rail line would make higher education more accessible.

Councilmember Imelda Padilla applauded the vote and said that the Modified Alternative 5 plan would extend into the Van Nuys community, bordering Van Nuys and Panorama City. The plan addresses the fact that the East San Fernando Valley in particular has not been receiving its fair share of Metro resources, and it will allow Van Nuys and Panorama City communities to connect to the greater system of transit.
