Redeveloping South L.A.: Community Workshop on 94th & Broadway Project
The LA City Economic and Workforce Development Department joined LA Sanitation, community leaders, and residents of Council District 8 for a workshop focused on a proposed development project in South Los Angeles.
The City highlighted plans to redevelop an abandoned, City-owned site at 94th Street and Broadway into a mixed-use project featuring 180 housing units and a full-service grocery store. Community members have long identified the lack of healthy food options as a major challenge in the area.
Before construction can begin, the site must be cleared and remediated due to contaminated soil. To address this, City departments have partnered to apply for a $2 million federal grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to support environmental cleanup efforts.
The community workshop marked the first step in the process, ensuring residents are informed about the site conditions and the plans for remediation and redevelopment. City leaders say the project will bring positive economic and community benefits once completed.
