South LA Youth Turn Tragedy Into Action With AB 2318
Community members, youth activists, and emergency medical professionals gathered outside Santee High School in South Los Angeles to advocate for fair treatment and timely medical care for people injured during law enforcement actions.

Their efforts helped inspire California Assembly Bill 2318, which would require law enforcement to provide prompt medical aid once a scene is secure. If care is delayed or withheld, officers would be required to submit written documentation explaining why.

Developed with young organizers from Voters of Tomorrow, the legislation grew out of concerns that injured community members were not receiving timely medical attention. By helping write the bill and bringing their advocacy to the state level, these young leaders are turning community concerns into meaningful policy reform.
