Space Shuttle Endeavour Now Stands in Its Iconic Launch Position
Space Shuttle Endeavour is now standing in its iconic vertical launch position.

The awe-inspiring orbiter is being readied for its public opening on November 13, when visitors will experience Endeavour displayed in its dramatic 20-story vertical launch configuration inside the new Samuel Oschin Gallery at the California Science Center. Designed to spark curiosity and inspire future generations, the exhibit showcases every stage of Endeavour's remarkable journey into space while highlighting the science, engineering, and technology behind NASA's Space Shuttle Program.

The vision to display a retired space shuttle in its launch position began during the Science Center's planning in 1992. NASA officially awarded Endeavour to the California Science Center in 2011, and the shuttle arrived in Los Angeles in 2012, making its unforgettable journey through city streets from LAX before spending several years on horizontal display while the new gallery was built around it.

The California Science Center expects the new exhibit to attract even more visitors from around the world, especially as Los Angeles prepares to host the 2028 Olympic Games.

The Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center, permanent home of Space Shuttle Endeavour, will soon be ready to launch, with an opening date set for November 13, 2026.
