Supporting Independence at the West Adams Senior Center
The West Adams Senior Center recently hosted a distribution event that brought real relief to older adults across Los Angeles. Seniors lined up to receive durable medical equipment, all offered through an LA City program that provides free tools to help residents stay safe and independent at home.
Participants could choose from manual wheelchairs, several types of rollators, shower benches, raised toilet seats, and even air purifiers. For many, these items are more than equipment. They are a lifeline.
One attendee shared that she came to pick up a raised toilet seat to help her stay safe at home. Another noted how important it is to prevent falls and said that having access to this equipment is essential for seniors who live alone. A few described how the program helped them feel independent without needing to lean on neighbors for basic tasks.
Los Angeles residents interested in the program can apply at Disability.LACity.gov.
